How We Lost the War on Poverty

BY DARROW MILLER

Fifty years after President Lyndon Johnson launched his War on Poverty, we have little if any progress to show for it. In fact, some would say poverty has been exacerbated. Why? We have acted as if poverty were caused by a lack of money, and thus the $15 trillion spent has made no difference. We must understand that poverty comes fromĀ a worldview. A poverty mentality gives rise to poverty behaviors that contribute to the intransigence of poverty.
