“Why should Christians value work and machines?” — Answers from 10-year-olds

Students at the Isaac Newton Christian Academy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa are steeped in biblical worldview as it relates to their education and development. Recently, a fourth-grade teacher asked a unique question on her students’ science exam: “Why should Christians value work and machines?”

We thought you’d be encouraged by these answers:

Our desire is to truly teach each student to look at every area of life, whether personal or academic, through the lens of a Biblical Christian worldview.
“Our desire is to truly teach each student to look at every area of life, whether personal or academic, through the lens of a Biblical Christian worldview,” say the school administrators here.

“Because they help us through life, and God gave us the material to make them.”

“God wants us to use our brains to worship Him, and machines help people to worship God.”

“Because God said to do work, and machines help us to do work.”

“Because people can glorify God by building things that they have never built before.”

“God gave us the thought of them, and they make it easier to serve God.”

“Because God made us to do work, not to just sit around and do nothing. So when we work, we should want to do it easily if we have to do it all the time.”

“Because God made us to do work and live. We should make it easier by using simple machines.”

“Anything that belongs to God is God’s, so you should take care of it.”

“Because it is God’s purpose for us.”

“God created people so people can invent machines.”

Dean Ridder from Isaac Newton school“We are amazed at how widespread the communication about our school and the implementation of a theology-of-work program has traveled,” says Dean Ridder (left), Head of School. “Schools that are not connected to Christian [the DNA partner who introduced this teaching to the school] or to the DNA are calling us now, asking for help to implement the concepts at their schools.”

We are so impressed by these kids and thank God for how he is using their teachers to renew their minds! Click here to learn more about this one-of-a-kind school.

The Gospel Has No Significance for Society

Christian nationalism was recently denounced by John MacArthur as a faulty viewpoint. He says things will get continually worse on Earth. Unfortunately, this view cultivates apathy and even discourages cultural influence. In contrast to this view, Christ teaches us to pray: “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” If things will only get worse, then what was the justification for the profoundly positive influence of Christian leaders like William Wilberforce? And why should we, as Christians, work to eradicate slavery, human trafficking, and abortion? Wherever God has placed you, whether in a family, school, political office, or bakery, you are called to faithfully represent Christ and His Kingdom in everything you do. It’s time for a faith that is active, not passive, in the face of challenges.

Words Worth Rejecting or Redeeming with Dr. Elizabeth Youmans

Words are constantly created and redefined in our day. With such dramatic shifts, how can we have the “mind of Christ?” Words are not just sounds we utter; they are powerful building blocks for culture. Words and their meanings shape our thinking, convictions, beliefs, and worldview – ultimately bringing about our actions. Which words need to be redeemed? Are there words that need to be rejected? Today we are joined by author, teacher, education consultant, trainer, speaker, and our good friend, Dr. Elizabeth Youmans, who helps us think deeply about this while helping us consider specific words like, gender, marriage, liberty and more.
