This week, the U.S. celebrates Thanksgiving. The holiday dates back to the year 1621, when 52 Puritans held a three-day feast with at least 90 Native Americans from the Wampanoag tribe to celebrate the pilgrims’ first corn harvest in America. They did not name the holiday but we know they gave thanks to the creator God who provides all things.

Today many see this holiday as a special day to express gratitude “for” something. For example, gratitude for family, home, health, love, beauty, etc. But as Scott reminds us in his latest book, words matter!

The power of the word “thank” is that it is always gratitude expressed to someone. So, who do we thank for family and health? Clearly, these are gifts ultimately from God.

We are glad this week for a day in a national calendar that orients us to the important things in life, and remind us to give thanks for them to… to the One who gave them.

Now read on for some people and resources for which we thank God.

The Fruit of a Biblical Mindset

Pastor Stanley Nkhoma recently participated in a Kingdomizer webinar series with Darrow Miller working through The Development Ethic: Hope for a Culture of Poverty. Stanley’s enthusiasm for the material led him to translate the content and begin training others. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. Stanley shares one testimony below:

Before being trained in the development ethic, Isaac Simakweli spent much of his time on a mountain praying and fasting to get blessings. After attending the training, he started a small business of selling farm produces and now has a big business.

We give thanks for Stanley and all of you who are investing your time and insights into helping bring transforming truths to others.

If you want to change culture, you begin by changing language.

If we want to see a revival in the church and a reformation of culture, we must start by recovering the true definitions of at least ten foundational words.

Scott Allen’s new book is now available for purchase from Amazon.

We will soon release a beautifully produced companion video series highlighting each word to use alongside a ten-week Bible study course. These will help you move from head knowledge to meaningful application. Get all the details.

We give thanks for the gift of words, that we might accurately know God, his purposes for us, and the world he created.
